A Halloween photoshoot for spooky season
Trick-or-Treat mini session
I had so much fun with my kids, being beta testers for this new photoshoot idea. I got the idea from finding various ghost photoshoots on Pinterest, which were almost all American. I am from the US, so I admit I am into Halloween more than some people, and I wanted to try out this ghost photoshoot with my own kids. I didn’t know how my pre-teen daughter was going to react to this idea of dressing as a ghost in our local woods, but she jumped at the idea! My younger daughter is always up for fancy dress, anywhere, so she was in.
We were only out in the woods for 20 minutes, but in that time my kids loved running around as ghosts (my pre-teen admitted she loved the anonymity of it all). I had an idea that if my kids loved this so much, I could take photos of other kids, in their costumes, or even just wearing seasonal clothing, and offering some Halloween photoshoots. I have called them Trick-or-Treat minis, as the kids are likely going to wear what they will wear while trick-or-treating! I also am offering the photoshoot to be in the woods, or at the kids’ home. I realise as a parent it can be quite a faff getting kids out of the house. Also, I want everyone to be comfortable in their environment. As a Woking family and branding photographer, I seem to be one of the few in the area, or in the UK for that matter, that are doing anything for Halloween.
My husband was the “creative director” during my beta test photoshoot. Haha. He climbed a tree, which is impressive, and took photos of the session from up in the tree! There are some less-than-flattering photos of me in the photographers’ squat, which I am not posting on here, haha, but there were nice shots, including the behind-the-scenes one on this post.
It is surprising to me how big Halloween has gotten in the UK in such a short time. When I moved to the UK (Scotland for grad school) in 2009 I was lucky if I could find some Halloween candy in the supermarket. Now it’s everywhere….and of course, it’s next to all the Christmas stuff that’s already in the supermarkets as well. I normally complain about anything Christmas-y before Halloween, but I treated myself to a Reese’s Christmas tree the other day, so I can’t complain too much…..
